Values shown are from ASTM C-236 guarded hot box test performed by a NVLAP accredited and State of California approved laboratory, and test data from ASHRAE fundamentals handbook. All R values for heat flow include 1.32 R for still air, and all R values for heat flow down includes 4.55 R still air.
MATERIAL Superior Type 5 flame retardant aluminum insulation is a four layer product, composed of three sheets of flame resistant Kraft paper, each faced on one side with aluminum foil, and one sheet of aluminum foil without paper backing.
A higher insulation value and a more pleasing appearance will be achieved by adding Superior Type 2 flame retardant cap sheet face stapled to the bottom of the rafters.
INSTALLATION Grasp blanket by flange with printed side down, position blanket flush against perlin/plate at end of bay, leave gap ¾" to 1" between bottom of flange and face of rafter/truss (when installed between 2"x 4" roof rafters install ½" from face of rafter), begin stapling material approx. 6"o.c. for full length of blanket. Hand held stapler is suggested with a minimum of 3/8" staple.
Grasp free flange and pull it taut towards the rafter/truss on right. Line bottom of flange up even with bottom of facing of rafter/truss. Be sure material is pulled over evenly to prevent cross buckles and wrinkles. Finish by stapling full length approx. 6" o.c.
WARNING Do not insulate under a wet roof deck. Insulating a wet roof may cause condensation and damage to insulation.
NOTE All Superior Aluminum Insulation products incorporate the use of a special flame resistant paper manufactured to meet the National Bureau of Standards Voluntary Product Standard PS 46-71 for flame resistant paper. We use a water base non-flammable adhesive to bond the aluminum to the flame resistant paper.
When tested by the ASTM-84 flame spread test, all Superior products have achieved a flame spread of 25 or less.
Superior Aluminum Insulation products meet the State of California Quality Standards. |
