Values shown are from ASTM C-236 guarded hot box test performed by a NVLAP accredited and State of California approved laboratory, and test data from ASHRAE fundamentals handbook. All R values for heat flow include 1.32 R for still air, and all R values for heat flow down includes 4.55 R still air.
MATERIAL Superior Factory Type 2 aluminum reflective insulation is composed of 100LB. Kraft paper faced on both sides with aluminum foil. During the lamination process a heavy application of flame retardant adhesive is applied to both sides of the Kraft paper to make it flame resistant and achieve a low flame spread.
Superior Factory Type 2 is available with white on exposed facing. Superior Factory Type 2 aluminum reflective insulation also has the following advantages:
- Low in cost
- Covers all roof rafters to give a simi-finished ceiling that never needs paint.
- Increases light reflectivity, thereby decreasing the amount of light needed.
- Is especially beneficial in an exposed rafter application in industrial and commercial
buildings. When installed exposed below unfaced mineral fiber blanket insulation or multiple layer aluminum insulation , additional insulation value is achieved (see ASHREA guide for reflective insulation values). When tested for vapor trans- mission as per ASTM E 96 procedure B, the following results were achieved: WVT=).22 gm/M2.24 hr. performance = 0.22 perms, which meets CEC and UBC regulations.
RECOMMENDED METHOD OF SPECIFYING Superior Factory Type2 aluminum insulation shall be installed only by qualified mechanics.
INSTALLATION Face staple Superior Factory Type 2 to bottom of rafters, staples to be approximately 6" o.c. Material shall be installed as a single sheet the full length of the rafters and turned down approximately 1½" at ends where possible, and stapled to both the perlin or main rafter support. Ends shall be neatly trimmed.
WARNING Do not install insulation under a roof that is not dry. Insulating a wet roof may cause condensation and damage to insulation and roof deck.
NOTE When tested by the ASTM E 84 Flame Spread Test the following results were achieved: Flame Spread 5 Smoke Developed 15
Superior Aluminum Insulation products are state certified and meet the State of California Quality Standards.
